Protecting the business against the rising costs of electricity was the main reason for the installation of Solar Panels at Shires Garage in Langport in 2021. Installed on the canopy of the petrol station the 15.18kWp array is regularly producing around 14MWh of electricity annually to offset the operational costs on site, this amounts to a saving of around £1500 per annum. The solar power generated on site is almost totally consumed by the premises with minimal export to the grid due to the long operating hours of the garage.
Maximising site self-consumption was one of the design goals for the team at Forest. The system also offsets around 8 tonnes of CO2 per annum.
The Forest team gave special consideration to the scaffold design and systems of work to ensure the forecourt remained fully open and operational during installation with minimal impact to the business. As Forest does Electrical as well as Solar, we were also able to complete a board upgrade and additional electrical works at the same time.
